Declaration of principles

Publishers should take a neutral position on all manuscripts submitted for publication, and must evaluate them based on their academic and scientific merits, regardless of any personal or family relationship with the author (s), or their race, sex, sexual preference, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, occupation, or political philosophy.

Publishers must provide information of the evaluated manuscript exclusively to the referees or reviewers, which is people who have been asked for their professional opinion about the merits of the manuscript for its publication. Editors should not disclose the names of the referees or reviewers to any person, including the author (s) of the manuscript under evaluation only if single blind review is chosen.

If an editor sends a manuscript for possible publication as its first author or coauthor, he should not act as a reviewr of that paper.

Editors should avoid conflicts of interest or situations that might seem like this. They should not submit manuscripts to reviewers or referees who have personal issues (for or against) with the author (s) of the manuscript, or the subjects depicted in the manuscript.

Unpublished information, arguments, or interpretations contained in the manuscript submitted for publication are confidential and should not be used for research or professional practice by the editors, or disclosures to third parties, except  with the approval of the author (s).

If strong evidence shows that the main subject, conclusions, references or other material contained in a manuscript that has already been published in the Journal of Earthquake Engineering are wrong, publishers, after notifying the author must facilitate the immediate publication of errata. If possible, editors should facilitate the publication of comments to help clarify the errors, when they exist.

If strong evidence shows to publishers that a manuscript or an article contains material that has been "taken", "adapted", "copied" or plagiarized from other people without giving any credit, or if containing falsified information, publishers must submit that evidence to the editorial board of the Journal of Earthquake Engineering for investigation under the guidelines of professional and ethical conduct of the Mexican Society of Seismic Engineering. If the evidence is confirmed, the editorial board may recommend the publication of a notice in the Journal of Earthquake Engineering where the unfortunate incident will be discussed, among other sanctions that can be taken to cases where ethical guidelines promoted are not observed.
